Chichen Itza Brew is influenced
by Dr. Von Zuko’s explorations of
the ancient Mayan ruins at
Chichen Itza situated in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The song is the
embodiment of a single, unforgettable day of good doctor’s
activities.
It started with an early morning journey from the resort city of
Cancun. Traveling on an old and well tortured bus, Dr. Von Zuko was
jostled and pitched through the Yucatan’s low growing jungle on a 3
hour journey toward the past. To Dr. Von Zuko the first sight of the
temples and pyramids of Chichen Itza towering over the jungle canopy
was magical.
Captivated by the awe and mystery of this ancient archeological site,
the doctor was transported back through the centuries to a time
(around 700 AD) when the
Mayan civilization thrived in Chichen Itza. In his minds eye, Dr. Von
Zuko could see the people moving with obvious purpose through the
marketplace and gathering in the square, directly in the shadows of
the great Pyramid of Kukulkán. High atop the pyramid, the legendary
Mayan ruler Quetzalcóatl raised his arms and a silence immediately
fell over the crowd. The voice from the top of the pyramid seemed
larger than life and even otherworldly, but the message was clear and
invoked a great celebration of life and of the spirits. The
celebrations of course, involved an ancient Mayan brew!
